How to make a lightsaber cake knife for your Star Wars wedding

Posted on

Luke, of Muppet wedding fame, did all of us (plus the entire internets?) a favor by giving us a tutorial on how he made his amazing lightsaber cake cutter. Here is the four-step hack for turning a Crate & Barrel cake knife into a lightsaber cake knife. (Many thanks to Laura from Rebel Belle Weddings, official Friend of the Empire, for hooking us up with the details on this one!)

The cake cutter was totally easy. (If it weren’t I would not have been able to handle it.) Here’s how:

Step 1:

Buy a Master Replicas .45 Scale Mini Lightsaber. I’m sure any would work, but I found that the diagonal lip of the Anakin or Episode IV Luke sabers worked particularly well for the gluing.

Step 2:

Buy a Crate and Barrel cake cutting set.

Step 3:

Hacksaw the handle off the cake cutter. This takes a little elbow grease.

Step 4:

Epoxy the blade to the tip of the saber. Again, the more recessed the saber tip style, the easier to glue, and more sturdy the final cutter.

That’s it!
